Habitat For Humanity

TOLEDO, Ohio – July 14, 2008

Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity, Toledo Edison/A FirstEnergy Company and 11 local construction companies will join together to build 5 homes in 7 days beginning Friday, July 25, 2008 at 6 o’clock a.m. The homes will be completed by Friday, August 1, 2008 and showcased in a Habitat Parade of Dreams on Sunday, August 3, 2008 from 1 o’clock p.m. to 5 o’clock p.m.

The homes will be built on Waybridge Road, off Bennett Road between Laskey and Alexis Roads in north Toledo. The street will eventually feature 10 Habitat homes including 3, 4 and 5 bedroom models.

The Builder’s Blitz 2008 is specially designed to showcase the skills of professional builders and to build more houses than could be possible with regular volunteer crews. It also allows area builders to make a significant change in the community they serve by making affordable housing available to families in need. Participating builders include: Barchick Custom Homes, Buckeye Specialty Homes, HOJ Development, Inc., The Kendalbrook Company, Michael Development, Ltd., Mix Enterprises, James E. Moline Builders, Inc., Ridge Stone Builders, Slaske Building Company, Village Building Company, Ltd., and Watermark Ltd.

All Habitat homes are high-quality homes and rated EnergyStar Plus efficient. The goal of Maumee Valley Habitat is to build simple, decent, affordable homes for qualifying low-income families who would otherwise not have the opportunity to own their own home

The Builder’s Blitz 2008 Kick-Off ceremony will feature breakfast by Starbucks (Talmadge Rd.) and Barry Bagels.

The program will begin at 6 o’clock a.m. on Friday, July 25th on Waybridge Road (off Bennett between Laskey and Alexis.

Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity (MVHFH) is a faith based, non-profit organization that develops simple, decent, affordable housing for low income families in Lucas County, Ohio. MVHFH sells the home to the family through a 0% interest loan. In the last 20 years, MVHFH has built or re-habbed 140 homes in the area. Volunteers and staff at MVHFH are unwilling to ignore the fact that many county residents live without decent or adequate shelter. Through Christian ministry, MVHFH challenges all people of conscience to join in partnership with those in need to change their living conditions.
